Samadhi Buddha Statue Anuradhapura Sacred City (UNESCO World Heritage)

Considered one of the best sculptures in the Anuradhapura era. It is thought to be done during the 3rd BC. It is made out of dolomite marble and stands 7 FT in height. This statue was found in the present location in 1886 fallen to the ground with damages to the nose.
It is similar to Gupta period Buddha images, it is believed that originally the image was gilded and had inlaid eyes made of precious gems. It is likely that it was one of the four statues around a sacred Bodhi tree shrine. This is the only one that has survived largely intact.

World Environment Day is observed every year on 5 June across the globe. The day is considered to be one of the most remarkable ones for environmental action and to create awareness among people.
The UN General Assembly had established World Environment Day on the first day of the Stockholm Conference on Human Environment. It was held in Sweden from 5 to 6 June in 1972.
