wn beautician Marina Perera, who gave her the chance to design the bridal retinue costumes, going away attire and home-coming attire for a wedding which took place in December 2007. These designs were done with extreme attention to detail and were time consuming, caught everyone’s eye and sharpened her skills as a fashion designer. Although she was a Participant / Semi-Finalist at the ‘Sunday Observer Fashion Designer of the Year Contest in 2008, her real breakthrough into limelight was when she was selected as a top 17 finalist and was placed 4th from the fan votes at Zainab Ammarah's Up & Coming Fashion Designer of the Year 2010. She gained special recognition for the martial arts outfit she designed under the sportswear category. Altogether the young designer presented her creations on all four categories, which were sportswear, swimwear, evening & couture and her theme for the contest was Canadian supermodel Linda Evangelista. Aiming to reach the highest peak in the fashion industry has been Uwani’s ultimate goal since childhood and works her way to her target through courage, hard work and determination.
