Dagger †

The Dagger indicates a footnote, if an Asterisk is already in use. It’s one of the derivations of the Obelus; a historical mark that marked content suspected of being corrupt. The act of ‘cutting out’ incorrect details and the meaning of the Obelus; a sharp ended object; gave rise to this aesthetic form of the Dagger.

Our favorite use of the Dagger though is the indication of death. If placed along with the name of an individual this means that person is deceased. In this context it’s called a ‘Death Dagger’.

What profound storytelling through a symbol. An emotional glyph? We like to think so. There is many more historical stories around the Dagger, but for now we will have to give the Dagger story a rest.

Going blank is great. You become a blank canvas. And a blank canvas can start anything. It can start a riot.

So here’re some blank boxes to help you go blank and start. We call it the ‘Ponder box’.

One final experiment for the 2019. Here’s what we call a ‘Color Diaphragm’. It’s a color block structure made based on certain color formula. Here you see how two diaphragms of the same color formula can work together. Will explain how to build color formulas later. Color formulas are great to have before you develop patterns.
