Cycling for the vision impaired
Hi everyone I have a tandem bicycle (bike with 2 seats). I have been wanting to take vision impaired (blind and partially blind) children for bike rides on it in memory of my beautiful son Sidharth. He passed away at the tender age of only 3 due to dengue on the 1st of April 2016. He loved my bicycle and loved going for rides on it with me when I strapped him to my
chest in the baby carrier. Tandem riders who are not vision impaired use their tandems all over the world to let vision impaired people (who would otherwise never know what it is like to cycle) have the same experience. I contacted the Blind school in Ratmalana and asked if I could take their kids for rides and they have said yes! My initial meeting with them is to be if all works out well this Saturday at 4pm with my tandem. The reason I am putting this post up is because I would like to know if anyone out there would be able to provide transport for the tandem bike from Colombo 7 to Ratmalana and back? I would normally have ridden all the way to Ratmalana but riding a tandem is very different to a normal bike and will as a result leave me possibly too exhausted to take the kids for rides. Also while I am quite good on a tandem, I am not too confident riding it long distance in traffic yet unlike my normal bike. I am in the process of getting another much better tandem from Australia which will take my tandem count to 2 and a friend said he will donate one which will make it 3. So if any of you out there would like to donate tandems or your time by joining me as riders to take the kids around when the other bikes become available pls also inbox me as I need to first train you to ride this type of bike first. Pls fell free to share this post as it is a noble gesture and cause which will bring great happiness into the lives of these kids. For those of you that haven't seen my son and would like to have know what he looked like, I have attached a picture of my beautiful little Sidharth...
Thank you for your support and taking the time to read this :)
