The Cabinet has given its approval to a pilot initiative that permits visitors from seven nations, which notably include India, China, and Russia, to enter without the need for a visa.

Tourism Minister Harin Fernando has shared that this pilot project is scheduled to remain in effect until March 31, 2024.

In a recent tweet, Minister Fernando disclosed that the Cabinet has granted visa-free entry for individuals from India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand, with this new policy taking immediate effect.

Just last week, the Ministry of Tourism had announced that a Cabinet Paper had been presented during the preceding Cabinet meeting, suggesting the issuance of free tourist visas to foreigners from five countries who plan to visit Sri Lanka for tourism purposes.
