Finally, in November 2020 we decided to form the chapter to network with our Ex-WFP staff to reminisce the past glory that they have each brought to WFP which of course was akin to our second home and share information on how they are progressing with their lives and professions and dealing with the current pandemic situation. Most of them have worked for WFP spanning a period of service between 5 to 25 years serving in field offices as well as units in the Country office in Programme, Logistics, Admin, Finance, HR, IT, Public Information & Donor Relations and Procurement units. It is recorded that we have over 200 National staff who have worked for WFP Sri Lanka especially during the post-Tsunami period from 2004 to 2010 peak period and separated from 2011 onwards with periodical staffing reviews, re-alignment & restructuring processes carried out by the Country office. It should also be noted that only 12 staff have actually retired from service within a period of 15 years and around 94% of Ex-WFP staff are still below the retirement age at present most of who are self-employed or employed elsewhere. The encouragement and support extended by former Country Directors’ Suresh Sharma, Mohammed Saleheen, current Country Director Brenda Barton and colleagues Mahinda Katugaha & Mohamed Azmey along with HQ Alumni colleagues are much appreciated.
