The Magic of the Misty University: Uva Wellassa University

There is a certain kind of magic that lives in Badulla. For those who have walked the winding, misty pathways of Uva Wellassa University University (UWU), that magic is an unforgettable reality.

Nestled deep in one of Sri Lanka’s most breathtakingly beautiful cities, UWU is far more than a place to earn a degree, it is a transformative experience.

Known fondly as the "Misty University," there are months when the campus is completely blanketed in a chilling, beautiful white fog, turning the daily walk to lectures into a scene from a dream.

මීදුම් සරසවියේ මායාව: ඌව වෙල්ලස්ස විශ්ව විද්‍යාලය

බදුල්ල යනු වචනයෙන් විස්තර කළ නොහැකි තරමේ අමුතුම මායාවක් ඇති නගරයකි. එම සුන්දර නගරයේ පිහිටි ඌව වෙල්ලස්ස විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ (UWU) මීදුම පිරුණු, වංගු සහිත මාවත් දිගේ පියනැගූ ඕනෑම අයෙකුට ඒ මායාව හොඳින්ම වැටහෙනු ඇත.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සුන්දරතම නගරයක කඳුවැටි අතර පිහිටා ඇති ඌව වෙල්ලස්ස විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය යනු හුදෙක් උපාධියක් ලබා ගන්නා ස්ථානයක් පමණක් නොවේ, එය සදාකාලිකවම මතකයේ රැඳෙන සුන්දර අත්දැකීමකි. "මීදුම් සරසවිය" ලෙස අන්වර්ථ නාමයෙන් හඳුන්වනු ලබන මෙම සරසවි භූමිය, වසරේ ඇතැම් මාසවලදී මුළුමනින්ම සුදු මීදුමෙන් වැසී යන්නේ, සිහිනයක් බඳු සුන්දරත්වයකින් හැඩ කරමිනි.

නමුත් ඒ සුන්දරත්වයට යටින් දිවෙන්නේ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ අනාගතය වෙනස් කරන දැවැන්තම මෙන්ම නවීනතම ශාස්ත්‍රීය හදවතකි. 2005 වසරේදී එහි ආරම්භක උපකුලපති ආචාර්ය චන්ද්‍රා ඇඹුල්දෙණිය මහතාගේ දූරදර්ශී නායකත්වය යටතේ ඌව වෙල්ලස්ස සරසවිය ආරම්භ වන විට, එය ස්ථාපිත කෙරුණේ සුවිශේෂී අරමුණක් පෙරදැරිවය. එනම් මෙරට ප්‍රථම "ව්‍යවසායකත්ව විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය" බවට පත්වීමයි.

එය හුදෙක් සහතික පත්‍ර ප්‍රදානය කිරීමට නොව, නවීන රැකියා වෙළෙඳපොළේ අවශ්‍යතා හඳුනාගනිමින් ශ්‍රී ලාංකේය ආර්ථිකය සෘජුවම නඟා සිටුවීම සඳහාම සැලසුම් කරන ලද්දකි. "අගය එකතු කිරීමේ විශිෂ්ටතා කේන්ද්‍රයක්" (Center for Value Addition) ලෙසින්, රැකියා සොයන්නන් වෙනුවට රැකියා නිර්මාපකයින් වීමට මෙම සරසවිය සිය සිසුන්ට මඟපෙන්වයි.

"කෘෂිකර්මාන්තය, ඛනිජ සම්පත් සහ සංචාරක කර්මාන්තය වැනි දේශීය සම්පත්වලට, විද්‍යාව සහ නවීන තාක්ෂණය මුසු කරමින් ගෝලීය වෙළෙඳපොළට සරිලන නව වටිනාකමක් එකතු කරන්නේ කෙසේදැයි මේ තරුණ බුද්ධිමතුන් ප්‍රායෝගිකව ඉගෙන ගන්නේ මෙතැනිනි.

අද වන විට, වත්මන් උපකුලපති ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ මහාචාර්ය කෝලිත බණ්ඩාර විජේසේකර මහතාගේ මඟපෙන්වීම යටතේ, අභ්‍යන්තර උපාධි අපේක්ෂකයින් 3,000කට වැඩි පිරිසකගේ ජීවගුණයෙන් මෙම සරසවිය පණගැන්වී ඇත.

සත්ත්ව විද්‍යා හා අපනයන කෘෂිකර්ම, ව්‍යවහාරික විද්‍යා, කළමනාකරණ, තාක්ෂණික අධ්‍යයන සහ අලුතින්ම පිහිටුවන ලද වෛද්‍ය පීඨය හරහා මෙම නවෝත්පාදන ගමන ඉදිරියටම යයි. මෙරට ඉහළම රැකියා නියුක්ති අනුපාතයක් හිමි සරසවියක ඉගෙනුම ලබනවා යන්නෙහි අභිමානය වගේම වගකීමත් මෙහි පැමිණෙන සෑම ශිෂ්‍යයෙකුටම මනාව දැනෙනවා විය යුතුය.

එහෙත්, සරසවි ජීවිතයේ සොඳුරුතම මතකයන් පිළිබඳව ඔවුන්ගෙන් විමසුවහොත්, ඔවුන් කතා කරන්නේ විද්‍යාගාර හෝ දේශන ශාලා ගැන පමණක් නොවේ. මෑතකදී අලුතින්ම ඉදිවුණු "නමුණුකුල එළිමහන් රංග පීඨයේ" ගෙවුණු ඒ සුන්දර හැන්දෑවන් පිළිබඳව ඔවුහු පවසනු ඇත. තුරුලතාවලින් වටවුණු මෙම එළිමහන් රංග පීඨය, අද වන විට ලංකාවේ සරසවියක දක්නට ලැබෙන සුන්දරතම එළිමහන් රංග පීඨයක් බවට පත්ව ඇත. සිසුන්ගේ කලාව, සංගීතය සහ සරසවි ජීවිතය ඒ සීතල කඳුකර සුළඟත් සමඟ මුහුවෙන්නේ එහිදීය.

මුළුමහත් රටටම, ඌව වෙල්ලස්ස යනු ජාතියේ අනාගතය යළි හැඩගස්වන අත්‍යවශ්‍ය ආර්ථික එන්ජිමකි. නමුත්, ඒ සීතල උදෑසනවල් පසුකරමින්, මීදුම අතරින් ජීවිත කාලයටම වටිනා මිතුදම් ගොඩනඟාගත්, තමන්ගේම අනාගතය ගොඩනඟන්නට ඉගෙනගත් ඒ ශිෂ්‍ය පරපුරට, ඌව වෙල්ලස විශ්ව විද්‍යාලය යනු හුදෙක් සරසවියක් පමණක්ම නොවේ. එය සදාකාලිකවම ඔවුන්ගේ ආදරණීය නිවහනයි.
