Establishment and Objective: De Soca-Lypso R***e was established on Thursday March 1st 2011, out of a quest and desire to contribute to the maintenance and elevation of standards in the art forms of Calypso and Soca thereby helping to enhance the quality of music, experience of patrons as well as the range of options and settings where these art forms are presente
d in St.Lucia in general. Organisational Structure and Membership: The membership and organisational structure of De Soca-Lypso R***e comprises of four (4) sub-groups namely the (i) CEO and Directors, (ii) The Executive Committee, (iii) Performing members or Calypso/Soca artistes, and (iv) a Cast of non-performing support members. It must be noted that we have put together a Support Team of non-performing members in a manner that blends knowledge and experience in the area of music with the talents and skills of professionals needed for the proper management of the show and business aspects of the Tent. This mix of musical and non-musical talent is considered important to our philosophy and approach because it allows our artistes/performers the time to focus mainly on performing to the high standards which we have set for our Tent. In our continued quest for excellence as an organisation that is vibrant, flexible and adaptive, we intend to incorporate the best current practices in the industry while striving to be better and different through innovation wherever possible or necessary. Events:
Our calendar of activities includes the following off-season main public events at which we strive to raise the bar and surpass expectations in terms of the performances of our artistes as well as in the management and production of our events:
• The Independence Calypso Competition which was held in two thousand and twelve (2012), under the theme “Independence Bliss, The Journey”, and our
• Kweyol Music and Entertainment Show which is held under the theme “Manjé, Dancé, Chanté en Kwéyòl” as part of Kweyol Heritage month. These off-season events are aimed at filling glaring gaps in our current socio-cultural offerings (where soca-calypso music is largely absent) and represent our effort to contribute to a national repertoire of soca-calypso music to celebrate important events and aspects of St.Lucia’s history and culture. More importantly they aptly demonstrate that the De Soca-Lypso R***e, is not just the usual Tent but a Tent with a clear agenda to not just compete but contribute to the upkeep and development of the musical genres/artforms of soca and calypso in St.Lucia through the use of creative and innovative means. Partnerships:
De Soca-Lypso R***e welcomes and looks forward to partnering with public and private individuals or Corporation that wish to join or support us in this pursuit of relevance to the socio-cultural development of St.Lucia.
