This 18-hour course focuses on conceptualizing, developing and designing an illustrated character. Through in-depth research of personality, form, function, context and style, participants will explore the body, shape, posture, anatomy, costume, color, accessories, movement and behavior of the character and its environment. Throughout the course, participants will be led through different ways of maintaining these characteristics in different scenes, situations and points of view.⠀

Maya Fidawi graduated from the Faculty of Art at the Lebanese University in 2000, holding a diploma in High Studies in Painting and Sculpting. She published her first children's book in 2004, and has since illustrated over 40 books with local and international publishers. She has won eight national and international awards, including the Etisalat Children's Book Award for the best illustrated book in 2014, and for the book of the year in 2017, and the Mahmoud Kahil Award for the best illustrated children's book in 2016.⠀

تركّز هذه الدورة التي تبلغ مدّتها ١٨ ساعة على تطوير شخصية مصوّرة والبيئة التي تحيط بها.⠀
خلال هذه الدورة، سوف يكتشف المشاركون المراحل الكاملة لتصميم ملامح الشخصية والشكل والأزياء والإكسسوارات⠀
والسلوك بعد البحث عن سياق / ثقافة معيّنة وتحديد الفئة العمرية.⠀
كما وستقوم مايا بشرح طرقاً مختلفة للحفاظ على الملامح والخصائص التي تم تطويرها عبر مشاهد وحالات مختلفة.⠀

تخرّجت مايا فداوي من كلية الآداب من الجامعة اللبنانية عام ٢٠٠٠، وقد حصلت على دبلوم في الدراسات العليا في الرسم والنحت. نشرت كتابها الأول للأطفال في العام ٢٠٠٤، ومنذ ذلك الحين قامت برسم أكثر من ٤٠ كتاباً بالتعاون مع ناشرين محليين وعالميين. فازت بثمانية جوائز وطنية ودولية، بما في ذلك جائزة إتصالات لكتب الأطفال لأفضل كتاب مصوّر في العام ٢٠١٤، جائزة كتاب العام سنة ٢٠١٧، وجائزة محمود كحيل لأفضل كتاب مصوّر للأطفال عام ٢٠١٦. @ Waraq

The participants designed collectively the “Beirut, Tanja and the sea” poster in two layers; typo and visuals. The shapes of each layer were carton cutouts in order to create two 50x70cm stencils for silkscreen printing. @ Waraq

A one day intensive workshop and an introduction to Screen Printing using cutout stencils.⠀
The workshop starts with an introduction to screen printing, showing some major printed artwork, after a brief introduction to Atelier Kissaria. Participants will learn about the different tools, techniques and processes of screen printing (preparing the frame, creating the visual, exposure, inking and printing)⠀
For this workshop, participants will design and print a collective poster around the theme “Beirut, Tangier and the sea”.⠀

Born in Tangier (Morocco), Hicham Bouzid is a cultural practitioner and independent curator. Bouzid collaborated and worked in several art and cultural organisations since 2010 in Morocco and abroad.⠀
Bouzid is today the founder and artistic director of Think Tanger and Atelier Kissaria.⠀

ورشة مكثّفة ليوم واحد ومقدمة للطباعة الحريرية من خلال الرسم بالإستنسل.
تبدأ الورشة بمقدمة للطباعة الحريرية ، حيث يتم عرض بعض الأعمال الفنية المطبوعة، بعد تلاوة مقدمة موجزة عن ورشة القيسارية في طنجة. سيتعرّف المشاركون على الأدوات والتقنيات والعمليات المختلفة للطباعة الحريرية (تحضير الإطار، إعداد الصورة، العرض، الكتابة بالحبر، والطباعة).
في ورشة العمل هذه، سيقوم المشاركون بتصميم وطباعة ملصق جماعي حول موضوع "بيروت، طنجة والبحر".

ولد هشام بو زيد في طنجة (المغرب)، وهو ممارس ثقافي ومنسّق مستقل.
تعاون بو زيد وعمل في العديد من المنظمات الفنية والثقافية منذ العام ٢٠١٠ في المغرب والخارج.
بوزيد هو اليوم المؤسس والمدير الفني لشركة Think Tanger و ورشة القيسارية .

The children’s books illustrator Maya Fidawi discussing her work and the process behind it with the course attendees.
During the first session, Maya introduced the world of some regional and international illustrators: Edward Gorey, Gustav Dore, Maurice Sandak, Noel Paton, Hassan Zahreddine, Loujayna El Assil, Walid Taher and Mohyeddine El Labbad.

Participants explored the possibilities within the publishing market, and debated issues of authorship and legal agreements.
