Biochar is a charcoal-like material created through a process called pyrolysis. The process involves burning organic materials in the absence of oxygen. Since biochar can be used as a carbon-sequestering medium, researchers evaluated its incorporation into concrete mixtures as a partial replacement for cement. Due to the development of research in engineering biochar, a high replacement percentage (up to 30%) has been reached without compromising the concrete mechanical properties.

The competition consists of designing and building an egg protection device capable of withstanding high-impact loads.
