Platelet donation
What is it?
It’s a type of blood donation called plateletpheresis. A machine gently takes platelets from your blood and returns the rest back to you. Think of it as borrowing just one ingredient, not the whole recipe.
Why platelets matter
Platelets help blood clot. Patients who often need them include:
Cancer patients on chemotherapy
People with leukemia or bone marrow disorders
Patients with severe bleeding or after major surgery
Platelets don’t live long, only about 5 days, so donors are always needed.
