Abdullo Khojiakbarov, ACCA, shares how a simple university conversation became the starting point of his ACCA journey — and shaped the way he approaches growth, leadership, and the future of finance.

While waiting outside the dean’s office with a friend during university, Abdullo realised that focusing only on coursework would not be enough to create the future he wanted. ACCA quickly became part of his “life-changing list” — a decision that would later influence both his mindset and career path.

Currently a Senior Investment Associate at Orient Group, Abdullo reflects that some of his proudest moments are still ahead of him. However, early in his career, only six months into audit, he unexpectedly stepped into a senior associate role and discovered how capable he was under pressure.

For Abdullo, the finance profession is evolving rapidly. In a world increasingly shaped by automation and AI, he believes adaptability, initiative, and especially communication skills are becoming more important than ever. Technical expertise alone is no longer enough — finance professionals must also know how to connect ideas, people, and strategy.

He also values the strong sense of connection within the ACCA community. Meeting another ACCA member, he says, feels like meeting someone who already understands the discipline, commitment, and challenges behind the qualification.

His advice to aspiring ACCA professionals is simple: focus on your career, but protect your balance. ACCA is a marathon, and maintaining studies, personal life, and hobbies together is essential for long-term success.
