State-hired goons have stormed a meeting where the KHRC and other CSOs were discussing the 2026-2027 budget that was presented yesterday. One of the assailants was arrested and said he was sent by a government official. Some valuables, including a phone, were stolen during the incident.

The civil society held this meeting at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi to assess how well the budget addressed citizen concerns. We condemn this act of intimidation and assert that it will not deter us from scrutinizing the budget. We will continue to demand that it put the interests of the people at front and center.

Hooded police in Nanyuki fired live bullets and arrested 19 protesters. Locals demand transparency on a planned US-linked Ebola facility and guarantee public health safety. KHRC demands the right to protest be protected and immediate release of protesters.

In two weeks, it will be two years since police used deadly force against protesters demanding accountability and better governance. The William Ruto regime has insisted on cash compensation, money it has failed to deliver. Their plan does not ensure anyone is held accountable, and their statements show they are not willing to do so. That’s why we insist that cash alone is not justice for protest victims.
