Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. It mainly affects the lungs (pulmonary TB) but can also affect other parts of the body.
TB spreads through the air when a person with active pulmonary TB coughs, sneezes, talks, or sings, releasing bacteria that others can inhale. Transmission usually happens through close, prolonged contact, especially in overcrowded environments.
