Tackling Nairobi’s Urban Heat Challenge with Data & Innovation
Rapid urban expansion is amplifying the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. This raises health risks, energy demands, and threatening environmental rights, particularly in vulnerable communities.

The team developed a Climate-Responsive Urban Planning Tool designed to address this challenge head-on:
✅ Predictive Micro-climate Analysis – using satellite data + machine learning to forecast heat hot spots at neighbourhood level.
✅ UHI Impact Assessments – quantifying the loss of tree cover, vegetation stress, and soil moisture decline.
✅ Integration with Urban Planning – mapping priority zones for greening, sustainable design, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
