For many school-going children, a uniform may seem like a simple requirement but for a child without one, it can mean something much deeper; loss of dignity, exclusion, and difficulty concentrating in class.
In many low-income communities, including Kibera, some children attend school without proper uniforms. This often exposes them to stigma, embarrassment, and sometimes even being sent home. Instead of focusing on learning, they are distracted by discomfort, shame or the fear of standing out.
A school uniform is not just clothing.
It represents belonging.
It restores confidence.
It allows a child to sit in class and focus on what truly matters — education.
Through HAKI GROUP, we had the privilege of distributing school uniforms to a few children around Kibera. The smiles, renewed confidence, and sense of pride we witnessed were powerful reminders that small interventions can make a big difference.
When we invest in a child’s dignity, we invest in their ability to learn, grow, and thrive.
There is still so much more to be done but step by step, we continue to show up.
