We all know about s***king. We've heard about it, experienced it and even maybe practice it as a form of discipline for our kids. In fact, it's the most common way in which children are disciplined. However, most experts argue that it’s not an effective form of teaching your child a lesson. What happens in most cases is that the child cries and stops the behavior temporarily then just goes back to it moments later.

In addition to not learning the lesson, your child also begins to connect violence as a way to resolve conflict. They mess up, you hit them, they cry and then its over. However, the idea behind discipline is to instill a value or encourage good behavior. So ideally, the lesson should stay. If you want to briefly stop a bad behavior, s***k. If you want the lesson to stick, be more intentional and find creative ways to guide and direct your child to transform their behavior long-term.

According to a survey done by Pew Research Center, most dads (63%) say that they spend too little time with their kids. Only 36% of dads say they spend the right amount of time with their kids. Moms, by comparison, still do more of the child care and are more likely than dads to say they are satisfied with the amount of time they spend with their kids. About half (53%) say this, while only 35% say they spend too little time with their children, according to the survey.
