It’s now clear that Cord is looking for an EXIT plan. When Kalonzo and Raila announced an ultimatum for National Dialogue on May 31, even those on the dais at Uhuru Park heard it for the first time. The two though UhuRuto would be cowed and accept to share the bread. It’s clear that won’t happen no matter how many rallies are held to drum it up. Everyone else can see the nusu mkate motive behind this. The local and international friends of Cord have dissociated themselves from the rallies and call for mass action. Slowly and quietly, Kalonzo and group have pulled out. Then there is the alleged link between Cord activities and Alshabab that is doing the damage. The ICC is watching. Yet supporters are waiting for 7/7. They have been promised a storm even if they don’t know exactly what the storm will be. So Cord (sorry ODM) is asking itself, what do we do? The first step is to scale down the National Dialogue to a demand that it be a meeting of Cord/Jubilee reps. That has been defeated by the reply that dialogue should be held in the established constitutional institutions. Then Raila has reduced the whole thing into an open letter to the President. Realizing that Uhuru will not respond to the letter he is mobilizing supporters to demanding for the response. Orengo should tell him that when you write a demand letter to another party, you don’t start pushing the party to respond. You just wait. If they don’t respond you file the suit. Now Raila has changed game, he wants to meet Uhuru alone and not in State House. Where else can they meet? I thought they always meet and talk alone in the first place. For now, with Wiper out of the plans, ODM leaders don’t know exactly what they will do come 7/7. They are now talking of 8/8 and 9/9 and 10/10. The desperation is now how to exit without wounding their ego, particularly that of the leader. Should Uhuru make a slight comment on the letter/demands they will announce that they are giving him more time to think about it and postponed the deadline. Uhuru should not comment. We must get to the end of this business by 7/7 and be done with it.
