“I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: ‘He who shared my bread has turned[a] against me.’ “I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am. Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.” After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.” His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.” Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?” Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. So Jesus told him, “What you are about to do, do quickly.” But no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him. Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the festival, or to give something to the poor. As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night. John 13:18-30

Jesus lived with Judas Iscariot all the while, he even gave him a treasury position knowing so well that he was the one to betray him. Up till the very moment and hour of betrayal Jesus never talked about it. He even never gave Judas any side eyes out of hatred or suspicion. And even at this very time, he said it as a form of motioning to Judas that, “time had now come”.

How do you treat your enemies? People who you out rightly know never mean any good to you? But you have to work in the same environment, live around the same area or even meet up in church as you serve in ministry.

For Judas, it was already prophesied before time that he was going to betray Jesus. And for Jesus the betrayal, though bad, was a set up for the next level. Betrayal is bad, so bad, but there are times it is meant to elevate you. Jesus loved Judas, and so should we all love those that betray us and Jesus lived with him and also did not mind the position allocated to him.
You can choose to go about bad mouthing the people that betrayed you or you can choose to live in harmony with them, because vengeance belongs to the Lord. Do not be so quick to execute judgement even in the places you feel you are fair, that is sorely Gods responsibility. When God Judges He does it justly. Just focus on living right for God.

But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! Hebrews 9:11-14

Before Jesus Christ came, the blood of goats and bulls came in handy as cleansing tools. Before any sacrifice, cleansing rituals would be held and that included shedding of the blood of animals. When Jesus came, all this changed. The bible says that he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that in not made with human hands. What Jesus did for us, would not have been done by any human being. With his blood, we do not need the blood of animals and other rituals to render us cleansed.

The blood only cleansed outwardly but that of Jesus does more than just that, it cleanses our consciences from acts that lead to death. What are these acts that leads to death? The bible says that the wages of sin is death. The blood of Jesus offers permanent solution to sin and thus saves us from death by offering eternal life. This blood is able to cleanse any sin known and unknown to man and its freely available to all kinds of people.

As we start this new week, let us remind ourselves of the value of the blood of Jesus Christ. It took his death for us to be forgiven once and for all. It’s because of this blood that we don’t need to sacrifice, goats, bulls and doves. There is no sin that you have done that this blood cannot cleanse. There is no way we can serve the living God if we are not cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ Thank you for God for the blood of Jesus Christ.

For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14

Saul told his son Jonathan and all the attendants to kill David. But Jonathan had taken a great liking to David and warned him, “My father Saul is looking for a chance to kill you. Be on your guard tomorrow morning; go into hiding and stay there. I will go out and stand with my father in the field where you are. I’ll speak to him about you and will tell you what I find out.” Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, “Let not the king do wrong to his servant David; he has not wronged you, and what he has done has benefited you greatly. He took his life in his hands when he killed the Philistine. The Lord won a great victory for all Israel, and you saw it and were glad. Why then would you do wrong to an innocent man like David by killing him for no reason?” Saul listened to Jonathan and took this oath: “As surely as the Lord lives, David will not be put to death.” So Jonathan called David and told him the whole conversation. He brought him to Saul, and David was with Saul as before. 1 Samuel 19:1-7

Saul had started to fear David out of his growing popularity and thus hatched a plot to kill him. Together with the attendants who were supposed to carry out the job was Jonathan his son. Scripture has it that Jonathan and David were very close friends. Jonathan being a son to the King and a friend to David had a choice to make.

Jonathan knew that whatever his father was about to do was wrong. He also knew that the success of the plan depended on him and thus his hands would eventually be dirty if he went through with the plan. He chose to tell David of the plan something that would have dubbed him a traitor. Jonathan didn’t stop at that, he also talks to his father about the plan and why he thinks it’s not right. He reminds Saul of what the Lord did to Israelites through David. Eventually, he brought peace amongst the two for that moment.

The bible warns us against being involved in the counsel of the wicked. It also encourages us to do what is right and just to all people. Jonathan chose what was right even if it meant betraying his own father. Before he calmed down his father, he first made sure to do the right thing which was warn David.
Can you go against family just to do the right thing? Jonathan knew the right and was also aware of what was at stake, and he eventually chose right.

It might not be easy, but it is always right to do what is right.

22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.” Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. 25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the Lord.” But Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.” And as Samuel turned around to go away, Saul seized the edge of his robe, and it tore. So Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you. And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent.” 1st Sam 15:22-27
Now the Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.” 1st Sam 16:1

King Saul disobeyed God and the Lord regretted that He had made him king over Israel. Not only did God regret but He also rejected Saul. When Samuel was sent to rebuke him, Saul really tried to cling to power trying to give every excuse he possibly could as to why he disobeyed God, but the word of God was final!

And Samuel goes ahead to outline how bad and catastrophic it can be when we disobey God. Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Bottom line, it is always important that we obey God.
Immediately after, the Lord had already marked and appointed someone else to replace Saul. He said “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors- to one better than you” and that was it! There is always someone better than you out there. The Lord was searching and in the wilderness He identified David a man that was going to obey Him.

To God, it is always important to work with a man or woman that can obey him. Otherwise, there was always and will always be a person ready enough out there to obey God if you do not. Let us look at David, a man that even before elevation was always found after the heart of God, a fact that God attested to. When God seeks someone to elevate, promote and lift He will always seek for one who is after Him.

God is always looking and seeking a heart that will obey Him and His word all the time. Someone who is not moved by crowds or surrounding but by Gods stand. Such a person the Lord will use any day.
