In many African homes, an empty stool beside an elder is more than furniture. It is a quiet symbol. It can represent companionship, partnership, shared laughter after a long day. Now imagine that stool remaining empty year after year, not because there were no good people around, but because the standard was so high that no human being could reach it.

Too many people are waiting for someone who has no flaws, no past, no mistakes, no weaknesses. They want beauty without attitude, strength without scars, intelligence without opinions, loyalty without boundaries. But we are all shaped by experiences. We all carry stories. Even the most admired woman in the village has her own imperfections, just as the man judging her has his.

In African Societies, marriage and partnership were never about perfection. They were about building together. Two imperfect people agreeing to grow side by side. The farmer does not wait for perfect weather before planting. He works with the season he has. The same wisdom applies to relationships. When you chase an illusion, you may overlook a real person who could have walked life’s journey with you.

This does not mean you lower your standards. It means you understand the difference between standards and fantasies. One protects your future. The other delays it. If you keep rejecting good people because they are not flawless, time will keep moving. And time does not negotiate.

Look around your life. Are you holding out for an idea instead of embracing a human being. Share your thoughts below. Have standards protected you, or have they sometimes kept you alone
