From KWID’s perspective, this data highlights a critical gap between climate action efforts and the safety and inclusion of women leading this work. With 96% of documented harassment targeting women and a rise in coordinated digital attacks, it is evident that current climate governance processes are not sufficiently responsive to gendered risks.

This reinforces the need to strengthen public participation mechanisms so they are intentional, safe and inclusive hence enabling women to engage meaningfully without fear of harm. Centering women in leadership is essential to ensure their lived experiences inform decisions, particularly on protection and accountability. Equally, shifting to gender responsive climate financing will ensure resources address emerging risks, including digital safety and support systems for defenders.

The media plays a pivotal role in this ecosystem. When used strategically, it can amplify women’s voices, shape public discourse and hold institutions accountable turning visibility into a tool for protection, influence, and sustained advocacy impact.

The week concluded on a high note with the inception of the 2026–2028 program for the Nairobi Eastern Central Regional Budget Hub (NEC Hub).

The inception meeting brought together Budget Facilitators from 14 counties, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Kajiado, Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu and Nyeri marking a stronger collaborative and impactful journey.

At Kitui Women in Development (KWID), we remain committed to amplifying the voices of women and persons with disabilities. Inclusion is not a choice, it is a necessity for building equitable, responsive and accountable systems, budgets and policies that serve all citizens.

We appreciate the continued support from Bajeti Hub in strengthening this important work.

The Faith in Action project continues to demonstrate the power of faith leaders in advancing gender justice and inclusive governance across Nairobi, Samburu and Kitui. Yesterday’s successful project closure virtual meeting highlighted impactful stories of change, grassroots mobilization and strengthened community voices.
As we approach the 2027 general elections, sustained and consistent efforts are critical. Campaign periods often heighten tensions, inequality and risks of violence. Faith leaders must actively promote peace, challenge harmful norms and champion women’s participation and dignity.
Kitui Women in Development and members of the side by side movement remain committed to this cause. We sincerely thank CRAWN Trust and all partners for their invaluable support.
