STAKEHOLDERS BACK NEW COUNTY LICENSING REFORMS
Business leaders and county officials from West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, and Turkana have welcomed proposed changes to the County Licensing Act, 2024. Speaking during a public participation forum in Kapenguria, stakeholders said the reforms will make doing business easier and attract new investors to the region.
The new law introduces a single online application process, meaning traders will no longer move from office to office seeking different permits. West Pokot Trade CECM Joshua Ruto said this one-stop system will eliminate long bureaucracies and stop fraudsters who extort money from unsuspecting business owners.
Each county will set up a Licensing Board to ensure transparency and fair charges, especially for MSMEs. Principal Secretary for Investment Promotion, Abubakar Hassan, noted that the digitalized, uniform system will lower compliance costs and boost Kenyaโs economy.

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has received medical equipment worth over Sh50 million aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across the county.
The Governor received the donation at Webuye County Hospital, where the Rotary Club of Bungoma Magharibi handed over a refrigeration van and a cold room, while the State Department for Health Services provided emergency medical equipment.
Speaking during the handover, Governor Lusaka said the equipment would go a long way in boosting immunization coverage across the county.
"This donation is a major boost to our county health system," Lusaka said. "We remain committed to strengthening healthcare services for every resident of Bungoma."
He noted that the refrigeration van will be used to transport vaccines to peripheral health facilities, helping raise immunization uptake in remote areas, while the newly acquired cold room has the capacity to store over one million vaccine doses at a time.
Rotary Club of Bungoma Magharibi Project Service Director Roy Wafula reaffirmed the club's dedication to the partnership with the county government.
"We remain committed to working with the county government, and together we will continue saving lives," Wafula said.
Health and Sanitation CECM CPA Chrispinus Barasa also praised the collaboration, saying it would significantly improve immunization uptake in the county.
"This partnership with Rotary Club will help us reach more children and mothers with life-saving vaccines," Barasa said.
The event was attended by Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi, Matulo Ward MCA Stephen Simiyu, Webuye County Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. David Wanikina, members of the Bungoma County Assembly Health Committee, and other key stakeholders

Law enforcement officers from Lumakanda Police Station have intercepted a public service vehicle (PSV) along Webuye-Eldoret Highway, nabbing a passenger with a stash of cannabis sativa valued at approximately Sh3 million in the streets.
Acting on a tip-off, the officers set up a strategic roadblock at Lumakanda Junction, ready to catch the would-be traffickers red-handed.
Just moments later, their efforts paid off when they intercepted the PSV suspected of ferrying the prohibited herb.
A quick search revealed one passenger, identified as Kelvin Onyango, with bales of bhang stuffed in two green sacks, tipping the scales at 100 kilograms.
Onyango was swiftly escorted to Lumakanda Police Station, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the recovered narcotics are being detained as exhibits.
