FUELED BY FAITH
I just added Abraham to my list of favorite Bible characters. That man dropped everything — his family (along with their idols), his country, everything that was safe and familiar to him — for the sake of a promise from Yahweh. How did he come to know God anyway? Scripture doesn’t say. Perhaps in a dream? Maybe God revealed Himself to Abram? However it happened, we can agree that it was probably a glorious encounter that it made Abram decide to leave everything.
His wife Sarai was barren. But God gave them a son. He did the impossible. Then God asked for the one thing that was most precious to Abraham and Sarah: Isaac.
Abraham didn’t even hesitate; he obeyed immediately. “Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac.” (Genesis 22:3). Who would do such thing? Somebody fueled by faith for sure. Faith in His God. Faith in His promise of a great nation (Genesis 12:1-3).
God wants to bless you and me. But with closed fists we cannot receive what God has for us. We have to let go of our idols; let go of our metaphorical Isaac.
Be fueled by faith.
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1)
