Police in Hoima City in Uganda are holding Hoima LCV Vice Chairperson, Hellen Mulumba, over allegations of extorting UGX 16.5m from a job seeker.

Investigations indicate that she allegedly received the money from a youth seeking employment in the district.

Police officers from Oyugis Police Station in Homa Bay County have arrested a 22-year-old suspect following a successful manhunt conducted yesterday in Oyugis Town.

The suspect had earlier attempted to evade arrest, abandoning a substantial quantity of illicit alcohol and drugs in the process.

Officers recovered around 600 rolls of bhang and 20 litres of chang’aa, dealing a significant blow to the illegal trade of narcotics and illicit brew in the area and reinforcing sustained efforts to curb criminal activity in the region.

The suspect was placed in custody pending arraignment in court, while the exhibits have been secured at the same station.
