I went back to Catherine Hall, West Green and West Green Meadows yesterday.

There’s been some progress, heavy machines clearing debris, a few trucks moving through, but once you turn off the main road, the real story begins. The mud is still thick. The contents of people’s homes: furniture, clothes, everything, are still piled up on the roadside with mud, waiting to be taken away.

A few friends came with me, and we handed out about 25 care packages. But it again, a drop in the bucket. The need is still overwhelming.

I brought the water truck again and was able to finish cleaning my mom’s house. Most families don’t have the kind of help I can give my mom. There are unconfirmed reports that some areas may have had water restored late yesterday.

It’s been more than two weeks since Hurricane Melissa. Progress has been slow, but Jamaicans are resilient, we rise stronger every time.
