Nicolás Maduro’s capture marks the fall of a brutal dictator. A man who starved his people, dismantled institutions and ruled through fear is finally out of the picture. For Venezuela, this moment brings relief — and a sense that justice has, at last, caught up.
Yet we cannot ignore how this happened. Donald Trump did not act in the name of democracy, but of power, oil and money. A unilateral military operation, outside Congress and any credible multilateral framework, was turned into a message: those who believe they can “restore world order” by force alone.
If that logic prevails, who will be next? Taiwan? Ukraine? And what kind of world will follow?
Still, one truth must guide us forward: Venezuela’s future does not belong to dictators or foreign powers. It belongs to its people. With international law, legitimate institutions and Venezuelans in the lead, a democratic rebirth is still possible — and worth fighting for.
