🌸 The Little Pink House of Montmartre 🌸
The origins of this charming house date back to at least 1850, when it was a simple and modest dwelling in what was then the rural village of Montmartre.
🎨 The pink color: In 1905, the house was purchased by the Catalan painter Ramón Pichot. In 1908, his wife, Laure “Germaine” Gargallo—famous for modeling for artists such as Picasso—inspired by the pastel colors she had seen during a trip to Spain, decided to paint the façade pink, officially giving birth to the iconic venue.
It quickly became a gathering place for the struggling artists and bohemians of the era. Among its most distinguished visitors were Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Maurice Utrillo, Édith Piaf, and Charles Aznavour.
🖼️ Maurice Utrillo, the celebrated Montmartre painter, helped make the house famous worldwide by portraying it in his renowned painting, *La Petite Maison Rose*.
