On April 13, 2026, Notre Dame Rome hosted the book presentation by Fr. Murray, OP, of "Majesty and Beauty: The Basilica of San Clemente and Its Underworld." This volume explores the basilica’s remarkable architectural stratification and its subterranean spaces as expressions of centuries of worship and cultural production in Rome.

This event was organized in collaboration with the San Clemente Project, which is part of a three-phase initiative of the Hortus Foundation (also a sponsor), a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of the 800-year-old Basilica di San Clemente. The basilica is currently undergoing urgent restoration efforts aimed at safeguarding its extraordinarily layered history and its enduring significance as a living witness to faith, memory, and artistic heritage.

As part of this collaboration, the San Clemente Project and ND Rome from Fall 2026 will offer internship opportunities to students.

Passing by more than 30 iconic landmarks—including the Colosseo, Piazza Navona, and St. Peter’s Basilica—while cheered on by the crowd, our Rome International Scholar Federrico Auricchio took on the Marathon of Rome, a memorable challenge he will surely remember for years to come.

Reflecting on it, he shared:
"It was an incredible experience and a great way to connect with the city of Rome. It added something truly meaningful to my study abroad journey. I finished in 3:27:16".

Planning your Spring 2027 abroad? The Rome Marathon will be back in March. Are you up for the challenge?
