Final helium leak test on MITICA BEAM SOURCE successfully completed!
An important test, coming just a few days after a major milestone for the : the delivery of Beam Source to the NBTF site, made possible through the joint effort of Fusion For Energy and Consorzio RFX together with and numerous European industrial partners, including RI Research Instruments GmbH, Galvano-T, CECOM srl and 3DMF.
Mitica Beam Source is a key component in the development of the neutral beam injectors that will support ITER operations.
During the test, the Beam Source was enclosed in a helium-filled bag, while all cooling circuits were evacuated and connected to a highly sensitive leak detector capable of identifying even the smallest traces of helium entering the Beam Source cooling circuits.
The successful outcome confirms the integrity of the cooling circuits and allows the programme to move forward to its next phases.

SPIDER back in vacuum: a new phase begins after upgrade and maintenance
The deuterium negative ion source is entering a new operational phase, now ready for nominal performance operation after a major upgrade campaign.
A key milestone marking a significant step forward for the Facility, hosted by Consorzio RFX Padova.
A complex and strategic upgrade, a long and highly technical effort that required targeted interventions, careful tuning, and an exceptional level of precision.
The result is a system now fully configured to push towards conditions increasingly close to ITER requirements.
SPIDER is now ready to operate in a regime closer to nominal parameters, with the goal of consolidating performance and reliability.
With this updated configuration, the testbed enters a crucial phase of its programme: testing, optimisation, and continuous improvement of neutral beam injection technologies.
The ultimate goal remains unchanged: getting ever closer to ITER operating conditions, step by step, data by data.
Full details on the upgrades and the new experimental objectives are available in the complete article: https://www.igi.cnr.it/en/news/spider-back-in-vacuum-a-new-phase-begins-after-upgrade-and-maintenance/
