Wunderkammer

ammer, "chamber of wonders", is an expression belonging to the German language, used to indicate particular environments in which, from the sixteenth century to the eighteenth century, collectors used to keep collections of extraordinary objects for their intrinsic and external characteristics. That of the Wunderkammer was a typical phenomenon of the sixteenth century, which however has its roots in the Middle Ages. It then developed throughout the seventeenth century, feeding on the Baroque grandeur and continued until the eighteenth century favored by the typical love for scientific curiosities, typical of the Enlightenment. "Music is not, like other arts, the image of ideas, but the image of the will itself, whose ideas are objectivity. Therefore the effect of music is so much more powerful and insinuating than that of the other arts: because they give us just the reflection, while that expresses the essence."
