U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. James Lively, commanding general of Task Force 61/2 visits the USS MOUNT WHITNEY LCC 20 on Aug. 6, 2025.

During the visit Lively met with Vice Adm. J. T. Anderson, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet and toured the Mount Whitney.

Task Force 61/2 is currently deployed in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations to advance U.S., Allied and partners interests, and support the warfighting effectiveness, lethality and readiness of U.S. Naval and Marine Corps forces in the region.

U.S. Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 365 (Reinforced), 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC), fire M240B machine guns during a crew-served weapons deck shoot aboard the amphibious assault ship USS WASP LHD 1 while underway in the Mediterranean Sea, Oct. 30, 2024. The Wasp (WSP) Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and embarked 24th MEU (SOC) is conducting operations in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet area of operations on a scheduled deployment. The WSP ARG-24th MEU (SOC) is supporting U.S., Allied and partner interests in the region, including in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, to continue promoting regional stability and deterring aggression.

Corporals Course Aboard the USS WASP

U.S. Marines with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC) participate in a Corporals Course aboard the amphibious assault ship USS WASP LHD 1 while underway in the Mediterranean Sea, Oct. 21, 2024. The Wasp (WSP) Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and embarked 24th MEU (SOC) is conducting operations in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet area of operations on a scheduled deployment. The WSP ARG-24th MEU (SOC) is supporting U.S., Allied and partner interests in the region, including in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, to continue promoting regional stability and deterring aggression.

Tour Aboard the USS WASP ⛴

Sailors assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS WASP LHD 1 host a ship tour while ported in Limassol, Cyprus, Oct. 11, 2024. Wasp is conducting operations in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet (NAVEUR-NAVAF) area of operations as the flagship of the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (WSP ARG)- 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC). The WSP ARG-24th MEU (SOC) is on a scheduled deployment to the NAVEUR-NAVAF area of operations, supporting U.S., Allied and partner interests in the region, including in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, to continue promoting regional stability and deterring aggression.

VBSS Aboard the USS New York

Sailors assigned to the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS NEW YORK (LPD 21), conduct visit board search and seizure (VBSS) drills aboard the ship, Oct. 5, 2024. VBSS team members participate in maritime boarding actions and tactics, designed to capture enemy vessels, to combat terrorism, piracy and smuggling. New York is conducting operations in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet (NAVEUR-NAVAF) area of operations as part of the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (WSP ARG)- 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC). The WSPARG-24th MEU (SOC) is on a scheduled deployment to the NAVEUR-NAVAF area of operations, supporting U.S., Allied and partner interests in the region, including the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, to continue promoting regional stability and deterring aggression.
