Marco Acri
“Vedi Napoli e poi muori.”
See Naples and then die — Goethe wrote it in 1787, after his first encounter with the city. The idea that Naples is so overwhelmingly alive, to have seen it is already enough.
This is the phrase hidden inside the work. Encoded line by line, invisible to those who don’t know the code, legible to those who do.
Deep terracotta. Acrylic and wax crayon pressed into canvas, layer over layer, until the surface holds both the weight of the gesture and the precision of the grid.
