In the last few years, live streaming in China has revolutionised the digital landscape: in the first half of 2019, some 433 million people enjoyed live content, which was joined by around 130 million in the same period the following year; by the end of 2020, there were 616 million users, almost half of the total population. The lockdown emergency thus launched live streaming into the Olympus of mass phenomena (numbers from east-media.net).

The first to believe in and ride the trend were global brands and local , who have become true celebrities (Key Opinion Leaders), but the vehicle is now also being used in : for our partner, the Cross Border E-commerce Association of Hainan, it is common practice to present products that the Board considers to be of potential commercial success, to the operators of its supply chain - who, as is always the case in China, are in many cases also involved in traditional retail.

How does it work?

The products of the selection (F&B, supplements and personal care) are shown, opened and described live by our colleague Menty Yu during an session, strictly in Chinese, agreed upon with the Association, which takes the onus of signalling the opportunity and actively involving the 300 member operators.

Result: many questions about the product itself, the manufacturer, the use in the kitchen - prices, MOQ and other supply conditions are of course discussed separately...
