Rothko Palazzo Strozzi Florence
Hurry up it will close on 23rd June 2026.
One big event not to miss, it’s been organized over a 5 year period, by his son Christopher Rothko and Elena Geuna.
The project involves a series of painting in oil on canvas as well as watercolor , ink, graphite on various kinds of paper.
The artist start painting at the age of 25 just by chance while taking a friend to an art school. Initially devoted to the figures of neo-realistic and architectural work related to classic examples that he observed in Italy referring to Giotto, Piero della Francesca and Michelangelo.
He then moves to a much more abstract world with the Multiforms in strong color contrast. In the 60s Rothko conceived his painting as a type of architecture, he feels trapped in enormous panels he want to immerge in a gigantic space , closed windows as in the Laurentian Library by Michelangelo a work that inspired him so deeply. So Palazzo Strozzi still another day to enjoy this special art collection. Claudia Durante Daily Rothko Mark Rothko

Florence will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic on June 2 with a day of institutional ceremonies, public screenings and cultural initiatives centred on democracy, memory and women’s participation in public life.
The celebrations, organised by the Palazzo Vecchio, begin at 10am in piazza della Repubblica with the traditional flag-raising ceremony attended by civic, military and religious authorities. A procession will then move towards piazza della Signoria, where the official ceremony will continue from the Arengario of Palazzo Vecchio with remarks by Mayor Sara Funaro and a reading of the President of the Republic’s message by Florence police chief Francesca Ferrandino. Honours from the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic will also be awarded during the ceremony.
This year’s anniversary marks eight decades since the institutional referendum of June 2, 1946, when Italians voted to abolish the monarchy and establish the republic. It was also the first national election in which Italian women were allowed to vote.
