Rome vibes + ICIAP2025
Yesterday we cooked not one but ✌️ international workshops:
🚁 (ADV) — led by PhD wizard Pasquale
🎨 vibes (FAPER) — led by PhD wizard Raffaele
Both absolutely crushed it. 🤯 Proud mentor moment 💪
Oh, and btw... we just dropped a collab with the Italian Ministry of Transport 🚦 — drones + road safety incoming. Stay tuned, it’s gonna be wild.

After the summer break, CILAB is back in the game… with not one, but two departures!
Today, we gathered for a heartfelt farewell lunch to send off our PhD researchers:
🔹 Nicola Fanelli, heading to Zurich with Eva Cetinic ( )
🔹 Emanuele Colonna, bound for the Canary Islands with Moises Diaz (Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria)
Prof. Giovanna Castellano is wishing them both an amazing journey! Like aliens on a cosmic mission, they’re about to land on unfamiliar planets—learning new routines, adapting to different rules, and soaking up fresh ideas and connections along the way.
And because even the most intrepid explorers need a memento, we gifted them “alien pens” 🛸—each engraved with messages like Out of this world and Aliens go together—to remind them that, no matter how far they roam, they’ll always belong to our united universe at CILAB.

🎉 We’re thrilled to share some exciting news: the next edition of the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT) Conference will be hosted in 2027 by CILAB - Computational Intelligence Lab, part of the DIB - Dipartimento di Informatica at the Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro !
📍 Mark your calendars and get ready to join us in the beautiful region of Apulia, Southern Italy, for a unique opportunity to connect, share, and advance research in fuzzy logic and computational intelligence.
We look forward to welcoming you to Bari — a city rich in history, culture, and innovation. Stay tuned for more updates!

🧠🔍 Pushing the boundaries of understandable AI in healthcare!
Our PhD student .g.valerio presented our latest work at :
“Enhancing the Explainability of Neuro-Fuzzy Systems with Large Language Models: A Case Study on EEG-Based Epileptic Seizure Classification”
👥 , Giovanna Castellano, .g.valerio , Rino Vessio , Gianluca Zaza .
This study explores the integration of LLMs with neuro-fuzzy models to enhance interpretability and usability in critical decision-making scenarios.
🔹 The neuro-fuzzy model provides transparent, rule-based reasoning
🔹 LLM complements it with concise, context-aware explanations
🔹 A human-in-the-loop pipeline engages domain experts for validation
🔬 Tested on EEG data for epileptic seizure prediction, the approach aims to deliver insights that are both accurate and understandable.
Bravo, Alberto, for presenting this work with clarity and depth!👏
💡 A step toward interactive, explainable, and trustworthy AI — especially in healthcare where it matters most. This work was developed as part of Spoke 6 - Symbiotic AI, FAIR Future AI Research project.
