In northern Iran, a bull is known as “Varzā.” Since ancient times, the people of this land have practiced a powerful and time-honored tradition called “Varzā Jang”—literally, the War of the Bulls. In this ritual contest, two mighty bulls were brought forward by their owners and set face to face, each embodying strength, pride, and honor.
Of all the laws that governed this ancient combat, one stood above all others: both bulls had to enter the arena at the exact same moment. To guard this sacred rule, seasoned and watchful men surrounded the field, their eyes fixed on the threshold of battle, ensuring that neither bull crossed it a heartbeat before the other.
And this was no small detail.
In Persian, “vatan” means homeland. It was believed that if a bull set foot in the arena even an instant too soon, it would claim the ground as its vatan. From that moment on, the arena was no longer just soil—it became sacred land. The bull would fight not merely to win, but to defend its homeland, battling with unwavering fury and resolve, until it stood victorious, alive and unbroken, upon the field.

This was the very first lesson I learned in my Iranian Studies class.

Some journeys feel familiar, not because you’ve been there before—but because the place welcomes you like an old friend.
This time, it was Dimitris from Greece, returning to Iran for the second time, choosing once again to travel with us at Iranomad Tours.

His heart was set on something deeper, quieter… more human.
So he joined the Bakhtiari nomads during K***h, walking beside families who still migrate with the seasons, sharing their fire, their laughter, and their way of life.

As we watched Dimitris connect with the rhythm of the mountains and the generosity of the nomads, we were reminded why these journeys matter—not just for travelers, but for us too.

Swipe through to see moments from his adventure, and on the last slide, read his beautiful review from TripAdvisor.
Grateful to have been part of your story once again, Dimitris. ⛰️🌿✨

| Travel Story ( K***h ), EP 1

Every year in spring and autumn, we join the nomads to hike part of their ancient migration routes known as "Ilrah" to reach their ( Summer or Winter ) pastures. It’s an adventure that offers a truly unique experience. The nomads migrate twice a year, but each year, fewer families continue this traditional way of life.

• In spring, before the migration begins, we make our way to Khuzestan, where we visit an invaluable and unparalleled civilization that has no equal in the world: the Ziggurat of Chogha Zanbil and the cradle of ancient Elamite civilization.

• Before heading to the nomadic family, we purchase snacks and supplies needed for the journey, which we give to the family matriarch.

• Finally, we set off on a beautiful path through the Zagros Mountains, and after reaching our destination, we enjoy a light hike to the family's pasture.

🔰 Join us on this journey; in the next part, we'll talk about the early days of the migration.
