به طور گسترده اعتقاد بر این است که آگاهی یک "مشکل سخت" را ارائه می دهد، که در نوع خود متفاوت از سایر جنبه های ذهن، مانند حافظه یا توجه است. حجم عظیمی از کار فلسفی به این مسئله اختصاص یافته است. اما آیا واقعاً آگاهی چنین مشکل لاینحلی را ایجاد می کند؟ یا اینکه مشکل یک مشکل خیالی است که توسط فیلسوفان درباره آگاهی ایجاد شده است؟ دقیقاً چه چیزی را می خواهیم با تئوری آگاهی توضیح دهیم؟ این وبینار این مسائل را معرفی می کند و پیشنهاد می کند که، اگرچه آگاهی قطعاً مشکلات توضیحی زیادی را ارائه می دهد، اما آن مشکل منفرد و بسیار دشواری را که بسیاری از فیلسوفان فکر می کنند مطرح نمی کند.

It is widely believed that consciousness presents a “hard problem”, different in kind from those posed by other aspects of the mind, such as memory or attention. A huge amount of philosophical work has been devoted to this problem. But does consciousness really present such an intractable problem? Or is the problem an imaginary one, created by the way philosophers think about consciousness? What exactly is it that we are trying to explain with a theory of consciousness? This webinar will introduce these issues and suggest that, although consciousness certainly presents many explanatory problems, it doesn’t pose the single, hyper-difficult problem that many philosophers think it does.
