As per the latest CBSE ( Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE ) curriculum, no major syllabus reduction has been officially announced.
Yes, CBSE mandates a three-language formula for Classes 6 through 10. Under guidelines aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, students are required to study three languages, and at least two of them must be native Indian languages.
The key rules and updates include:
Classes 9 & 10: The study of three languages (categorized as R1, R2, and R3) is compulsory. Two out of these three must be native Indian languages. Foreign languages can only be taken if the other two are native Indian languages, or as an additional fourth language.
Class 10 Board Exam Exemption: To ease academic pressure, there will be no board examination for the third language (R3) at the Class 10 level. All assessments for R3 will be school-based, though the performance will still reflect on the CBSE certificate.
Class 6 Implementation: The phased rollout requires the third language (R3) to be introduced starting from Class 6.
