The Local Area in and around Srinagar delineated vide SRO 43 dated 2 February 1971 initially formed the area of jurisdiction under the Authority. SDA’s mandate is to manage the land transferred to it by the Government from time to time, develop it to create better infrastructure to cater to the needs and demands of the fast expanding Srinagar urban area. Over the years SDA has created massive infrastructure like commercial and office complexes, residential colonies, parks, community halls and green belts in and around Srinagar. SDA is also entrusted with the job of formulating and implementing Master Plan for Srinagar city. First Master Plan for Srinagar was prepared by SDA in 1976 and it was notified by the Government vide SRO 754 dated 22 November 1976. The second Master Plan (2000-2021) is presently under operation and implementation which was notified vide SRO-28 dated 30 January 2003. SDA is currently in the process of formulating the Master Plan 2012-2032 and Zonal Plans for Greater Srinagar encompassing Local Area of 757 Sq KMs against 417 Sq KMs in Master Plan 2000-2021.
