We are truly feeling blessed to be celebrating this day by harvesting the golden wheat ears of the beautiful ‘Paigambari’ which are now ripe and full. The Paigambari also known as Sona Moti is an ancient heirloom wheat which is almost forgotten and lost in the modernized and commercialized wheat industry.

The team at the farm was initially concerned about the smaller size of the wheat ear - which means lesser number of grains per plant… but I think they are also appreciating the fact that good things come in small packages 🙂

They are recognising our little ‘Prayaas’ to grow more of our desi varieties that are resilient to the climate crisis and ensure food security. And by consuming such real indigenous food we all can contribute to keeping the seed alive… they may offer lower yields but are healthier for us and for the planet.

Harvesting peas is soooo much fun! With the spring season arriving, the peas have started to form inside the pods and they are ready for harvest.

This is first time, we have been a little bit more serious and disciplined about growing peas. We planted the seeds closely on the edge of our garlic beds and put up some nets for support. Other than that, peas don’t need any additional compost or manure, not much watering and no pests also! And just like that, the plants are laden with beautiful pods :)
