FinCom, IIT Ropar

On March 20, FinCOM, IIT Ropar organized a webinar on "Mastering Investing Decisions in the Capital Markets". The guest speaker was Mr. Bikram Gupta, the founder of "MarginValue".

The discussion started with the rules of investing which were followed by the 5 areas that inform investment decision making namely macroeconomics, Financial Accounting, Valuation, Business Analysis, and Behavioral Finance.
Under these sub-headings, we talked about what indicators we should track, how they help us in making better decisions, and also, we learnt to identify red flag situations using income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Other very important parts covered were the risks involved and the management of emotions during decision-making. Towards the end of the session, a roadmap to big wealth creation was shared and the stage was open for queries by the students.

On 9 February, FinCOM organized an interactive session by Mr. Aditya Ghosh on “Financial wellness”.
The session kickstarted with some advice and recommendations on personal financial planning, followed by some brief insights on Active and Passive income sources, investment objectives and a systematic plan to implement them. The speaker discussed the common mistakes people commit while investing in various sectors and provided valuable suggestions along with a few DO’s and DONT’s to avoid these mistakes. Later in the session, the attendees were also introduced to a unique mutual fund calculator that gave a brief idea about the expected returns on investment in a ‘Systematic investment plan’ and ‘One type investment (Lump Sum)’. The session concluded with some important and valuable information on mutual funds and guidance on buying various insurances.

The Problem Statement for the competition will be sent to the participants via Email.
The registrations for the competition end by 14th January.
The submission deadlines for the reports : 15th January, 11:59 PM.
