EPIPHANY SCHOOL

A Brief School History

The Community of St. Mary the Virgin – England, commenced its social welfare activities in India in 1877, through various educational and rehabilitation programmes aimed at slum improvement and upliftment of women. Of the various institutions established by the society, Epiphany School was one of them. It closed down in 1904 and was again revived in 1986.

A true teacher would never tell you what to do. But he would give you the knowledge with which you could decide what would be best for you to do.
Knowledge is being showered upon

Why should you apply for the fellowship? Here are some reasons from one of our current Fellows.
Meet Sumit Anand, a 2018 Fellow who teaches students in Epiphany English Medium School. "There were two major reasons why I joined the movement. The first being, my mother is a teacher and I started teaching kids with her when I was in 7th grade and later realized I absolutely enjoyed teaching. The second reason being, when I was volunteering with Kat-Kathastories on GB Road as a teacher, I witnessed the phenomenal potential that the kids had and all they needed was constant encouragement and proper guidance. This made me realize the impact a teacher has and can have on a student's life. This is why I applied for the fellowship.

During the application process, I thoroughly enjoyed writing my essays and planning for my demo class. All this while, my friends were a constant source of support and my own board of advisors. The recruiters from the organization called me time and again to clarify any issues, doubts and were always available whenever I needed them. It was their constant support which helped me to successfully complete the application.

The journey so far has been dramatically remarkable. I remember my second day in school when I was questioning my place in the fellowship. I walked into the principal’s office and said, "I can’t teach this class." But now, when I look back to that day, many things have changed drastically and I'm glad that I didn't quit on my students that day. It was the constant efforts of building relations and understanding each other which brought about the change. The journey is all about celebrating the tiniest of the accomplishments through this path of ups and downs."
