In the national flag of India the top band is of Saffron colour, indicating the strength and courage of the country. The white middle band indicates peace and truth with Ashoka Chakra. The last band is green in colour shows the fertility, growth and auspiciousness of the land.

The Ashoka Chakra, derives its name from the emblem found on various edicts of Chakravarti Samrat Ashoka, most notably the Lion Capital of Ashoka.

The idea of the Ashoka Chakra was proposed by chief architect of the Indian constitution, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The creators of the Indian flag later assigned distinct significance to each spoke of the Ashoka Chakra, symbolising the values that India aspires to uphold and progress towards.
