“Paraben-free… safer or just marketing?” 🤔

Parabens have been used for over 50 years as preservatives in cosmetics to prevent bacteria, fungus, and contamination—basically keeping your products safe to use. The fear around them started in 2004, when a study detected parabens in breast tumor tissue. This led to headlines linking parabens to breast cancer, but the study never proved they caused cancer—it only showed their presence. Detection does not mean causation.

Scientifically, parabens can mimic Estrogen, but their activity is extremely weak compared to the natural hormones in our body. Most concerns come from lab or animal studies using much higher doses than real-life exposure, and so far, there is no proven direct link between parabens and cancer in humans.

Even today, regulators like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the European Commission consider parabens safe within approved limits. Yet, “paraben-free” became a powerful label because fear sells faster than facts.

And honestly, even Pumpky is paraben-free—not because parabens are proven harmful, but because today’s market responds more to consumer perception than pure science.

Also, it’s important to remember: paraben is just one ingredient. A good product is built on the entire formulation—stability, safety, efficacy, and preservation—not just the absence of one component.
