A Management Development Programme (MDP) on “Application of ICT and Early Warning System for Disaster Risk Reduction: Strengthening Capacities in Bihar” was launched yesterday. The programme is scheduled to take place from 3–5 December 2025. Er Naveen Kumar, a member of the Centre of Excellence in Disaster Management, is the Coordinator and lead facilitator.

Amid increasing climate-induced risks, Bihar requires stronger, faster, and more technology-driven preparedness systems. This programme focuses on leveraging ICT tools, Early Warning Systems (EWS), GIS, Remote Sensing, Decision Support Systems, and innovative digital platforms to enhance disaster readiness and reduce loss of lives and property. Together, we aim to strengthen Bihar’s disaster resilience through technology, innovation, and capacity building.

There are 24 participants, comprising ADMOs and Programmers from the Disaster Management Department, representing various districts of Bihar.

The MDP is facilitated by an experienced team of experts in ICT, Early Warning Systems, and Disaster Management. Specialists from IMD, FMISC, BIRSAC, and CWC will play a vital role in the programme by providing technical insights into early warning operations. The IMD expert will explain weather monitoring, forecasting, and hazard alerts, while the FMISC facilitator will cover flood forecasting and hydrological data analysis. BIRSAC will contribute knowledge on GIS, remote sensing, and satellite-based hazard mapping, and the CWC specialist will highlight river monitoring and water-level forecasting. Together, they will help participants understand how key technical agencies will strengthen disaster preparedness and early warning in Bihar.
