It was founded on 21st December 1981, and is registered under the Societies Registration Act 21, 1860. Since April 2003, it has been listed with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi. Prangan has presented at least 501 shows of 104 plays so far. The organization also takes credit for organizing numerous multi-dimensional cult
ural programs, and its folk- music-dance troupe holds a special place in India. Institutions such as:

Odisha, Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Tripura, Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and more. Prangan has won top honors multiple times in national competitions for drama and folk poetry. Its presence has been felt in - National Festivals like Rang Mahotsav, Kharjuraho Mahotsav, - Folk Drama Festival (organized by Shri Ram Centre, New Delhi). ⁃ and national drama festivals in Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Goa, Kolkata,
Bhubaneshwar, and Jamshedpur. In 1997. Prangan artists represented India at the 14th World Youth Festival in Cuba (Havana). From 24 May to 2 June 2005, a 15-member team from Prangan participated in the Trinidad & Tobago(West Indies) festival, representing India with folk songs and dance on the occasion of 160 years of Indian immigration. They also performed folk dance in the Commonwealth Games cultural segment
Prangan presented its folk dance during the First Women's World Cup Kabaddi Competition in Patna (Bihar) as part of the cultural program during its inauguration and closing ceremonies. On 23 September 2013, Prangan participated in the International Drama Festival organized by Mahakal Natya Samiti in Dhaka (Bangladesh) with its play "Kadambini". On 15 March 2018, Prangan presented the Hindi play "Batohi" (written by Shri Hrishikesh Sulabh, directed by Shri Abhay Sinha) at the 8th Theatre Olympics Festival organized by the National School of Drama, New Delhi in Varanasi (U.P.). From 18 March to 21 March 2019, Prangan represented India at the Festival of India, Nepal with a 15-member team through folk dance and songs. On 21 November 2019, Prangan performed folk dance at the International Trade Fair. Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on behalf of Bihar Government's Industries Department. On 1 March 2023, under the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi's honor program, the Hindi play "Batohi written by Shri Hrishikesh Sulabh & directed by Shri Abhay Sinha was staged. On 12 March 2024, again under the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi's honor program, the Hindi play "Batohi" acted by Shri Nileshwar Mishra was presented. Since 1985, the organization's regular hosting of the " PATLIPUTRA NATYA MAHOTSAVA" in Patna (Bihar) has given Prangan a distinct identity. It is now a multi-lingual national festival in which institutions and organizations from various states and regions of India participate and present multi-dimensional and diverse performances on a common platform. It feels as if Prangan brings the entire India to Patna. Additionally, the organization runs the "Prangan Kala Kendra", which provides training in folk dance and music.
