“Leadership is not defined by the answers we have today, but by the questions we dare to ask for tomorrow.”

Pipeline Infrastructure Limited in association with ET EnergyWorld today convened a CXO Roundtable on “Rethinking Leadership for Sustainable Performance,” bringing together industry leaders to reflect on what leadership truly means in an evolving business landscape.

Opening the session, Akhil Mehrotra, MD of Pipeline Infrastructure Limited, emphasized that leadership today is no longer only about driving growth or delivering quarterly results. It is about building resilient organizations, creating long-term value, and balancing performance with responsibility towards people, society, and the future.
Sharing his leadership philosophy, he noted: “My philosophy is simple: If you take care of your people, your people will take care of the business.”

Adding another dimension to the discussion, Gaurav Arora, MCC (ICF) spoke about the importance of discovering one’s own identity as a leader and building meaningful connections with teams. Leadership, he shared, is not only about guiding others but also about understanding who you are as a leader.

Key Takeaways from the Dialogue:
• Pushing Personal and Organizational Boundaries – Leaders must challenge themselves while inspiring their teams to exceed expectations.
• Balancing Empathy with Difficult Decisions – Compassion matters, but leadership often requires making tough calls for the larger good.
• Redefining Growth Beyond Numbers – Growth includes financial performance, talent development, culture, and sustainability.
• Navigating Value Alignment – Bridging the gap between personal values and organizational priorities is one of leadership’s toughest challenges.
• Stewardship of Talent – Organizations are defined by their people; leaders must nurture and empower them to thrive.
• Resilience Amid Expectations and Setbacks – Accepting failure and learning from it is essential to building resilient leaders.
• Leadership Evolves Through Experience – Reflection and life experiences continuously shape leadership styles.
• From Cost Leadership to Value Leadership – The focus is shifting from efficiency alone to long-term value creation.
• Perspective Changes the Answer – The first answer may not always be the right one. Clarity often emerges when we pause and view the situation from another person’s perspective.
Reflection to Close:

As the conversation concluded, the room was left with more than just insights-it left many reflecting on their own leadership journeys. Because sometimes the most powerful outcome of a dialogue is not the answers we walk away with, but the questions we carry back with us.
