Another alarming instance that occurred in the city included a young student who was expelled from a Indirapuram Public school, Crossings Replublic Ghaziabad in the middle of her term due to a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis (T1D). Navya is a bright young child who is eager to go to school, but she has allegedly been prevented from doing so for the past seven months because she got diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

Despite her parents' and family members' repeated pleadings and appeals, the school administration ignored all of them and unlawfully expelled the girl.

The school turned the child away and said that they did not have the provision to cater to the needs of diabetic children, which was a blatant breach of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act.

As soon as we heard from their family, DIYA members made the decision to handle the situation since this is blatant discrimination on the part of the school and a lie given that the school does not require any special equipment to accommodate a child with T1D, as long as the child is well-equipped,

I feel tricked, Navya's mother said in a statement. The school has shown no compassion or willingness to help my daughter get the education that she is entitled to. Every day, my daughter asks when she will return to school, and I never know how to answer her.

DIYA members and spoke to the IAS officer for the Ghaziabad district, Vikram Aditya Nath, and Education officer Vikram Kumar Mishra to enable Navya return to school after they were turned down by the school administration. We’re grateful to them for hearing us out and helping us to get this issue sorted at the earliest.

They have pledged to file this complaint and make sure Navya resumes her studies from coming week. (The video includes further details)

This video is being shared to raise awareness of the continuous social prejudice that people with diabetes experience on a daily basis. It's time to take action so that no one with diabetes is denied a fundamental human right.
