Cyanogen platform SDK in the works, will allow devs to integrate certain CM features

As Cyanogen marches forward with its lofty goal of putting a bullet through Google’s head, you’re likely to see the ROM maker do as much as possible to help set its software aside from stock Android. One such change is the new Cyanogen Platform SDK.

The upcoming SDK will eventually allow developers to integrate CM specific features into their apps. This includes things like proxies, screen-off gestures, and even custom quick setting tiles. The latter of these is the first part of the API that will be made available to developers, but is just the beginning of bolder ambitions. Of course, Cyanogen will first need to convince enough developers to actually utilize its SDK, but at the very least you can probably expect many of the smaller indie developers to jump onboard.

What happens when lithium-ion batteries overheat?

"Thermal runaway means that at a critical temperature, the materials inside these batteries start to break down. And when heat cannot escape as fast as it’s being generated, this is a “runaway” reaction that cannot be stopped."

Microsoft will allow Android apps to be quickly compiled for Windows 10

During today's Build 2015 keynote address, Microsoft confirmed that it has set up a way to allow apps made for Android in Java and C++ to be quickly complied for Windows 10.

Those apps will take advantage of existing Android code but developers will also be able to use the Windows platform tools to create new Universal apps. This should save developers both time and money by allowing the bulk of their code to be reused.

Apps can still use Windows APIs such as location, and they can run in a Windows Security container to allow for a trustworthy experience. Apps navigation will be integrated with Windows navigation model so they'll feel just like any other apps when you're using them. Even Live tiles and integration with Microsoft services can be used with these recompiled Android apps.

It's not about running Android apps on Windows. It's about making it easier for current developers on other platforms to bring their wares to Windows.

Our buddies at Windows Central are live from Build 2015 throughout the day, so drop by if you're interested for much more.

Google Play developers now able to reply to user reviews

In line with Google’s priority of strengthening communication between developers and their users, they have given developers the ability to reply to user reviews via the Google Play Developer Console. Responses by developers will appear publicly below the original comment in the Play Store. Once a developer replies to a user’s comment, the user will receive an email and can then either reply to the developer directly by email, or update their review.

Back in November, Play Store reviews became integrated with Google+, with the goal of less anonymity leading to higher quality comments. Today’s update strengthens communication a step further. It’s a feature that’s long overdue and should help improve app development.
