USA with 4.2% fiscal deficit and one trillion borrowings is rated AAA
India with 3.2% fiscal deficit and far lower borrowings is rated at BBB- levels and now turned from stable to negative
And India has never delayed any of its debt obligation
The no of steps higher for USA from India is AA+. AA. AA- A+. A. A- BBB+. BBB BBB- which is nine steps
Surely neither USA can be so strong nor India can be so weak
In fact India is rated even lower than Panama
Only reason I can understand is Moodys. S & P and Fitch are located in USA
Best is to ignore these rating exercise as pure Tamasha .
